Somatic Experiencing®

The Somatic Experiencing® (SE) method was developed by Dr. Peter Levine, Ph.D. (2010 Lifetime Achievement recipient from the US Association for Body Psychotherapy). It focuses on the healing of trauma and other stressful events and disorders from the perspective of how the body holds those experiences in terms of the incomplete fight, flight, or freeze responses.

In addition to having worked for 20 years in a holistic medical practice, and having received a Ph.D. with an emphasis on health psychology, Dr. Dyan holds a certificate as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner® (SEP®). She understands how past experiences can be held as emotions in the body and mind.

Through SE techniques, Dr. Dyan helps her clients to gently and safely release the traumatic shock of particular events, both big and seemingly small, or the early wounds of emotional and developmental attachment and childhood trauma.

This work can be profoundly helpful in regulating the nervous system to bring about the release of many different mental, emotional, and somatic/physical symptoms, as well as nurturing greater harmony within the mind-body-spirit system.

Dr. Dyan works with clients one on one to help:

  • Calm the nervous system
  • Understand and improve symptoms
  • Clear fixed, stuck, fear, grief, or anger states that may manifest as mood, pain, or chronic body symptoms
  • Support building self-help strategies for now and in the future
